The McCallum Folk Pipes are purpose-built for pipers who want to play comfortably alongside other instruments in traditional, folk, and contemporary ensembles. Designed to retain the blowing and bag pressure technique of Highland bagpipes, they allow players to use familiar piping mechanics while producing a pitch suited for mixed-instrument performance.
The chanter’s low A is tuned to concert pitch A=440Hz, enabling the instrument to naturally play in keys commonly used by other musicians. This makes the Folk Pipes ideal for ensemble settings where standard Highland bagpipe pitch would otherwise be too high to blend effectively.
Each set comes fully assembled and ready to play, supplied with covers and cords, a synthetic bag, moisture control system, chanter reed, and synthetic drone reeds. This complete setup ensures convenience and immediate playability straight out of the box.
Two versions are available: the FOLK/PL, made from durable Black Acetyl for a robust and low-maintenance option, and the FOLK/BW, crafted from Blackwood with Mopane projecting mounts and ringcaps for players seeking a more traditional appearance and premium finish.
