In a pipe band, a red (or crimson) sash is a ceremonial accessory worn by senior personnel—typically the Pipe Major or Pipe Sergeant—to indicate rank, experience, and authority. It is a traditional feature heavily influenced by the British Army, where it signifies the wearer's role as a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer (SNCO) or Warrant Officer. It is worn from the right shoulder to the left hip.

It comes in different sizes to fit users of varying sizes.
